Sanford Meisner was an originating member and actor of the renowned Group Theatre. After the Group disbanded, Meisner formulated and taught what later became his world-renowned acting technique at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. His alumni reads like a list of the who's who in show business including Alec Baldwin, Diane Keaton, Jeff Bridges, Grace Kelly, Robert Duvall, Jeff Goldbloom, Steven Colbert, Tina Fey, Tom Cruise and more.

According to Sanford Meisner acting is defined as, "Living truthfully under given imaginary circumstances. To achieve this aim, Meisner developed a series of exercises and tools to train actors to respond truthfully and spontaneously in the moment, first without text, and then with scene study. These exercises build upon one another to give the actor a solid foundation for their acting life.

At Fraser Studios, we teach the Meisner Technique scheduled to fit the lifestyle of the Toronto actor:

  • Part time curriculum mirroring the Neighborhood Playhouse
  • Class levels to focus on different Meisner acting tools
  • Develop a solid foundation from the 4 tiered, multi level program from intro - advanced
  • Level progression to build on a skill set acquired in the previous level ensuring thorough understanding of each tool
  • Advancing from level to level is at the discretion of the instructors

Our training is intensive and demands that the actor be committed and passionate.
